Harbhajan Singh appears to be encouraging some competition for Gautam Gambhir, who is currently the leading candidate to become India’s next head coach after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. In light of Pakistan’s early exit from the tournament, Harbhajan has called for Gary Kirsten to make a surprising return to Team India.
Gary Kirsten, the former South African batsman and current Pakistan head coach, faced a tough time as Pakistan’s team didn’t advance past the group stage of the ICC event. According to reports from Pakistani media, Kirsten has expressed his frustration with the team’s performance and internal issues. He pointed out a lack of unity among the players and criticized their fitness levels. In his candid assessment, Kirsten noted that the Pakistani team, led by Babar Azam, lags behind other competitive teams in terms of skill.
Harbhajan Singh has also shared his views on this matter. In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, the former Indian cricketer advised Kirsten to reconsider his position with Pakistan. Harbhajan suggested that Kirsten’s talents would be better utilized with the Indian team, urging him to return as head coach. He praised Kirsten as a rare and exceptional coach, mentor, and friend to all members of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning team.
“Don’t waste your time there, Gary. Come back to coach Team India,” Harbhajan wrote. “Gary Kirsten is one of the rare great coaches, a mentor, honest, and a dear friend to everyone in our 2011 team. He was our winning coach in the 2011 World Cup. Gary is a special man,” Harbhajan added.
This statement has sparked a discussion among cricket fans and experts about the potential return of Gary Kirsten to the Indian coaching setup, adding an interesting twist to the ongoing search for India’s next head coach.
